TIG steel
Tungsten Inert Gas

• uses tungsten electrodes to create an arc
• inert gas stops any oxidisation
• best used for

TIG aluminium
High frequency is required using AC power

• used for castings (silicone aluminium) & fabrication (magnesium aluminium)
• same process is used for magnesium

MIG
Microwire Inert Gas

• used for metal overlays and fabrication
• metals used are steel, stainless steel, all bronzes and copper

Fusion Spray
Metal powder fed through a nozzle

• used mainly for hard-facing overlays
• can obtain hardnesses of up to 60RC

Sub Arc
Arc is submerged in flux granules

• mainly used for heavy overlays
• we have this process automated

MMA
Manual Metal Arc

• commonly known as 'stick'
• used for x-ray quality welds e.g. pressure vessels and structural steel
